Neophore
With the project “Neophore”, Döppel Studio explores the shapes of ancient jars and amphorae, reinterpreting them as luminous vessels through the use of terracotta and a specific glaze.
Three archetypal forms serve as the foundation of the collection. Each one is then “woven” with a neon tube in a different way, resulting in 12 unique pieces created from three serial bases.
Here, light becomes the very essence of the project: conceived as a substance to be carried, it guides the shape of the vessel, inspires new uses, and gives rise to unprecedented objects.
This dialogue between neon and terracotta led Döppel Studio to collaborate with Aliénor Martineau (Alma Mater), a ceramicist specialized in natural mineral-based glazes. Together, they developed a custom glaze, responsive to luminosity and designed to interact with light.
Presented with the support of ToolsGalerie, this distinctive collection stands at the crossroads of amphora, lamp, and vessel. It echoes the measuring systems and practices of early civilizations, the myth of Prometheus (fire), and above all, light itself—whether diffused, piercing, or overflowing—affirmed as a material in its own right.
