Galeries Lafayette
For the 130th anniversary of Galeries Lafayette Haussmann, Döppel Studio was invited to design an exhibition route showcasing the house’s archives. A symbol of Art Nouveau, architectural innovation, and the influence of French fashion, the department store has embodied for over a century a stage open to creativity and the avant-garde.
It is at the heart of this heritage that the project takes shape. The staircase connecting the six floors becomes the guiding thread of the scenography: a space where a chronological frieze unfolds, retracing the history of the house and more than a century of fashion, craftsmanship, and creation.
The circle, a signature element of Galeries Lafayette’s visual identity, is reinterpreted as both a graphic and architectural motif. It dresses the walls, punctuates the ascent, and forms alcoves where the archives are displayed.
Each landing transforms into a step in an immersive narrative, inviting visitors to gradually discover, along their ascent, the history of an emblematic institution and its role in shaping a culture of fashion in France.
